19.000 Mahasiswa Perebutkan Hadiah Olimpiade Sais Nasional Pertamina senilai Rp.2,8 Milyar

Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Indonesia Ministry of Education, Prof. Dr. Musliar Kasim, opened the provincial selection round for Pertamina National Science Olympic (OSN - PERTAMINA). The selection rounds are held simultaneously at 33 provinces in Indonesia. As many as 19,238 university students compete for a total prize of Rp 2.8 billion.

The number of participants exceeds the previous year number, which reached 16,748 students. This preliminary selection round is the first phase of OSN-PERTAMINA, which will then be followed by the provincial level final selection and national selection.

The opening of OSN-PERTAMINA preliminary selection round was also attended by the Rector of the University of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Djoko Santoso, and Vice President of Corporate Communication of PT Pertamina (Persero), Ali Balairaung Mundakir, at the University of Indonesia in Depok.

In his speech, Ali Mundakir stated that the OSN-PERTAMINA 2012 had produced some improvement because eventually the winners from each province would be required to run a science project.

"With this breakthrough, we hope that the science olympic winners are not only good on paper, but also are encouraged to be able to produce innovative new and renewable energy technologies as well as green technologies (green energy)." said Ali.

"As a national energy company, Pertamina deeply concerns to contribute to the national academic activities to give birth to future competent scientists. We even hope that the technological innovation they produce can be developed and even applied to the development of national energy business, especially in Pertamina now and in the future," he added.

OSN-PERTAMINA 2012 with the theme "Creating High-Achieving Earth Friendly Generation" is in its fifth year of running. It is organized by PT. Pertamina (Persero) with the University of Indonesia (UI) as a partner, and fully supported by the Directorate General of Higher Education of Ministry of National Education.

The competition consists of three stages, namely Participant Registration, Provincial Selection Round (preliminary rounds are be held simultaneously in 33 provinces on 25 September 2012, the Provincial Finals will be held on 8 October 2012) and the National Level Selection on 26-30 November 2012. Registration is done on-line via the website www.osnpertamina.com from 23 July to 15 September 2012.

OSN-Pertamina 2012 is open for all university sophomores and above, and not the winners of the previous year OSN-Pertamina and have never participated in international science olympics. For smooth running of OSN-PERTAMINA 2012, the organizer has developed a series of competition categories, comprising Theory and Science Project. The Theory category includes Mathematics, Physics, Chemical, and Biology. Meanwhile the Science Project category is designed to select group winners that have innovative works and Applied Science in energy and its development which will be presented in prototype form in front of Board of Juries.

OSN-Pertamina 2012 is part of PT. Pertamina's CSR program for education sector as the implementation of Pertamina vision to educate Indonesia generation. The OSN-Pertamina 2012 is hoped to produce Indonesia new science-savvy generation in order to increase the quality of Indonesia human resource particularly in science and who can give contribution to the development of science world.
